Five Events to get involved with this Mental Health Month:

There are some fantastic events taking place during Mental Health Month 2016. From barefoot bowls to a black tie ball – there is something for everyone. We have put together a list of our favourite five events to get involved with and help raise awareness about mental health and wellbeing in 2016.

  1. 13626629_989411721178710_3069480530979462_nZombie Walk (Grafton)

If you have ever felt the desire to paint your face with fake gore and walk (or shuffle) down the town main street then this event is for you. On the 8th of October a group of organisation in Grafton will be holding the “Grafton Zombie Walk”. The walk begins in memorial park Grafton at 3.00pm and will conclude in a youth music/dance event including entertainment, food stalls and a zombie themed movie screening.

  1. Print Screening and Stencilling Classes (Bega)

Throughout Mental Health Month Bega Women’s Resource Centre will be running a series of workshops on Mono-Printing and Print-Screening. These classes will be run by a community artist and will allow participants to create a series of images relating to personal narrative inspired by personal events.

  1. Blackdog Black Tie Ball (Bingara)

Blackdog’s annual “Unleash the Black Dog” Black Tie ball is an excuse to dress up in your best and finest this mental health month. The ball will be held on the 22nd of October at the Roxy Theatre, Bingara. Tickets are $75 and all money goes towards mental health awareness and support in the region. The evening includes a three course meal, live music, auction, raffles and of course plenty of dancing!

  1. Birriwa Free Outdoor Youth Yoga (Mt Annan)

If you’ve ever wanted to make all your Instagram followers green with jealousy here is your opportunity. Camden council is hosting a series of free youth yoga clinics throughout October. The clinics will provide training on yoga and meditation in an outdoor setting, facilitated by a trained yoga instructor.

  1. MH-AW Banner -2Mental Health Artwork Exhibition (Gosford)

Throughout Mental Health Month the Community Gallery, Gosford will be holding its 17th annual mental health art exhibition. The exhibition is free and will feature artworks created by individuals with lived experiences of mental illness in a diverse range of mediums including painting, sculpture and photography.
